Global technology giant Amazon has strengthened its footprint in Telangana with a massive new investment in cloud infrastructure. Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company’s cloud computing arm, has signed a landmark framework agreement with the Telangana government to expand its data center operations in Hyderabad.
The agreement was announced during the Telangana Rising Global Summit, held on December 8 and 9. Under this pact, AWS will invest $7 billion (around ₹63,000 crore) over the next 14 years to scale up its cloud data center network in the state.
Second AWS Data Center Region in India
The investment is cumulative with the previous commitment from AWS that was made in 2020 when it came up with the plan to invest $2.7 billion for opening a cloud region in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad data center will be considered as AWS’s second region of data center in India, after the Mumbai region that began operations in 2022. Then, AWS set a target of $4.4 billion as the total investment in Hyderabad in 2030, and that has now been greatly amplified with the new deal.
The AWS Hyderabad region with the new investment is all set to become the most important place for cloud services, AI, startups, and government digital platforms not only in India but also everywhere in the world.
Leaders Welcome the Deal
The Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proclaimed that the deal is an indicator of the world’s trust in the administration of Telangana and its economic vision for years to come. Moreover, he characterized the commitment of Amazon as a giant leap for the state’s dream of becoming a $3 trillion economy, labeling it a powerful affirmation of the Telangana Rising 2047 Vision.
IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu said the expansion would position Hyderabad as the data center capital of India, driving employment, innovation, AI adoption, and digital infrastructure growth.
AWS India and South Asia President Sandeep Dutta said the agreement highlights Amazon’s continued commitment to India’s digital transformation and reinforces its goal of making Telangana a global technology hub.
