Trump Repeats Claim of Preventing India-Pakistan Nuclear Conflict

President Donald Trump speaks at Mar-a-Lago, claiming to have averted nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan.

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he played a key role in stopping a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan, asserting that Pakistan’s leadership credited him with saving millions of lives.

Speaking at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on December 22, Trump said, “We stopped a potential nuclear war between Pakistan and India. The head of Pakistan, a highly respected General, a Field Marshal and Prime Minister, said President Trump saved 10 million lives, maybe more.” He made the remarks alongside Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Trump further added, “Eight planes were shot down. That war was starting to rage… So we solved all these wars. The only one I haven’t solved yet is Russia, Ukraine.”

Since May 10, when Trump first announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire after talks mediated by Washington, he has repeatedly claimed—over 60 times—that he helped resolve tensions between the two countries.

However, New Delhi has consistently rejected any third-party intervention in the conflict. The escalation began on May 7, when India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. After four days of cross-border drone and missile strikes, India and Pakistan reportedly reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict.

This marks yet another instance of Trump highlighting his foreign policy claims regarding South Asia, despite official Indian denial of U.S. mediation.
