The Embassy of the United States in India has formally notified Indian students who are in the US that visa is not a right but a privilege and that the US government will not overlook abuse of rights. The notice is issued against the backdrop of ongoing visa cancellations and deportation of international students on grounds of legal violation.
In a released statement, the embassy informed that any international student violating any laws, whether local, state, or federal, might be subject to immediate visa cancellation. Deportation and a permanent bar for various US visas might also result from such violations.
The embassy tactically reminded the students of the necessity of being careful, and it counseled Indian citizens that it would be better to observe American laws and decrees as strict measures during their time in the country. The warning is even more important when seen in the light of the new visa restrictions and more active enforcement policies introduced during the US President Donald Trump’s administration, particularly for international students.
The embassy once again stressed the point that in order to sustain one’s legal status and to be able to learn without interruption, it is necessary to comply with the laws of the US.
