Apple will only release high-end iPhones in 2026 because the company plans to delay its standard iPhone 18 launch until the first half of 2027 according to a Nikkei Asia report. The company made this choice to achieve three goals which include better resource management and higher revenue generation and decreased dangers during production processes that have emerged due to increasing costs of memory chips and other components.
Premium iPhones Lead 2026 Launches
Apple will release three premium iPhone models during the second half of 2026, which will include its first foldable iPhone and two traditional flagship iPhone devices. The new models will come with bigger screen sizes and better camera systems and other top-tier features. Apple decided to develop its premium devices first because the foldable iPhone needs advanced manufacturing methods to create it.
The standard iPhone 18 will launch in the first half of 2027 which allows Apple to focus on its high-margin products while managing supply chain problems.
Strategic Reasons Behind the Delay
The executive from an iPhone supplier told Nikkei Asia that Apple made its decision based on two factors which included supply chain efficiency and changes in marketing strategy. The company intends to achieve maximum revenue and profit from its premium devices because the costs of memory chips and raw materials have increased worldwide.
Apple’s method protects the company from production problems which arise with the new foldable iPhone while the company focuses on products that will deliver the greatest financial return.
Strong Demand Despite Supply Challenges
Apple’s quarterly earnings report showed better revenue results than Wall Street expected because of strong iPhone sales and a major recovery in China. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, explained to Reuters that the company experienced “staggering” demand for its new iPhone models because customers showed strong interest in its premium products despite the availability delay of regular devices.
Apple will concentrate its 2026 efforts on high-end iPhones to build its market presence in premium smartphones which attract customers who desire advanced technology features. The company will introduce new standard devices to the market in 2027.
