Balakrishna’s and Boyapati Srinu’s highly publicized Akhanda 2 has been reported to finish its theatrical run as a major box-office failure. The movie, according to several trade tracking firms that continuously analyze the box-office market, has become one of the most significant failures of 2025; thus, the entire production team suffered considerable losses.
Ultimately, the partnership of Balakrishna with Boyapati was again a winning one; therefore, producers Ram Achanta and Gopi Achanta (14 Reels Plus) boldly raised the sequel to a new level without any hesitation. However, the picture Akhanda 2 was not able to give the public what they wanted and so, as a result, the movie makers lost a huge amount of money even though there was a brilliant cast, high hopes, and a very powerful release strategy.
₹100 Crore Loss for Producers
The film was granted permission for ticket price hikes in both Telugu states, but the move did little to improve revenues. Trade reports suggest that Akhanda 2 was made on a budget of around ₹200 crore, a figure also reflected on its Wikipedia profile.
As the film has now nearly completed its box-office run—with many theatres already replacing it ahead of the Sankranti releases—industry tracker Sacnilk reports that the movie has collected approximately ₹93 crore net so far. This indicates an estimated loss of nearly ₹100 crore for the producers.
Mixed Talk, Limited Reach
From the first day, the film was given mixed word of mouth which badly affected the revenue. Majorly the film was liked by Balakrishna’s supporters but it could not attract the general public and foreign viewers which impacted the overall performance of the movie even more.
Buyers Await GST Relief
Recently, director Boyapati Srinu stated that Akhanda 2 should not be viewed purely from a business perspective and claimed that the film had already recovered its required collections. This led to celebratory posts from sections of Balakrishna’s fan base, insisting that there were no losses.
However, the ground reality appears different for distributors and buyers, who are reportedly facing severe financial stress. Many are now hoping that pending GST reimbursements will help reduce at least part of their losses.
Overall, despite strong pre-release buzz and a proven lead combination, Akhanda 2 has ended its run as a costly venture at the box office.
