New IPL Rule Bars Three Veteran Players From Entering 2026 Auction

Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, and Jason Roy have been ruled out of the IPL 2026 auction due to BCCI’s strict new registration and withdrawal rules.

The IPL 2026 mini auction is set to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. This means the franchises will be fighting over 77 slots that are available after retaining 173 players total. In addition, the three big international stars Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, and Jason Roy will not take part in the auction because of the revised BCCI’s eligibility rules.

BCCI’s New Overseas Player Rules: What Changed?

The BCCI has recently come up with two major regulations concerning overseas participation, which have a direct impact on IPL 2026:

  1. Registration Mandatory for All Foreign Players

All overseas cricketers must register for the IPL mega auction.
Registration failure is the same as being disqualified from that season’s auction.

  1. Two-Year Ban for Players Withdrawing After Being Sold

A player who goes back on his word after being sold during the auction will be banned for two years, which means he cannot participate in future auctions or sign a contract with any franchise during that period.

Reasons Why Stokes, Brook, and Roy Are Disqualified

Ben Stokes

The captain of England Test team skipped the mega auction 2025 for the reason of workload management.
Since he did not register, he is already excluded from IPL 2026.

Harry Brook

Brook has withdrawn several times from past IPL seasons, including after being awarded a ₹6.25 crore contract by Delhi Capitals in 2025.
According to BCCI’s regulations, a series of withdrawals disqualifies him for the 2026 auction.

Jason Roy

Roy decided not to participate in IPL 2024 for personal reasons and also didn’t register for the 2025 mega auction.
So, this non-participation results in automatic exclusion from IPL 2026.

A Highly Competitive Auction Without Three Big Names

The auction pool of IPL 2026 will still have top-tier stars such as Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell, and David Miller. Yet, the lack of experienced players like Stokes, Brook, and Roy is going to change the way franchises think and plan their strategies, which will be a reflection of the BCCI’s strong stance on commitment and player accountability.
