Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has declared that one of its ground staff has been found guilty after a female Korean accused him of sexually assaulting her on the ground of a security screening.

The event took place on Monday, January 19th when the victim was at the airport for her flight connection to South Korea. She had already cleared the immigration check and was walking to the terminal when a person in an airport uniform approached and requested her boarding pass. This man, identified as Mohammed Affan, supposedly signed her boarding bag for a checkup and even told her that it had caused a beep during screening.

Affan, who is an employee of Air India SATS – a service provider for ground and cargo handling, was said to have informed the lady that going back to the regular screening counter would consume time and might result in her missing the flight. He then performed an unauthorized check and took her to a place close to the men’s washroom.

The victim claimed that Affan performed an unprofessional pat-down and went on touching her against her will through her protests. When she fought back he supposedly embraced her and said “thank you” and then left the place.

She instantly informed the security men at the airport who caught the suspect and turned him over to the police. Investigators also analyzed the airport’s CCTV footage which was said to have supported the complaint.

Using the woman’s account, the airport police filed a case and arrested Affan. Police are saying that the inquiry into the matter is still in progress.
