Sankranti Vacation Begins: Telangana Schools and Colleges Closed Jan 10–16

Children and families celebrate Sankranti in Telangana with traditional games and cultural events as schools and colleges remain closed for the festival.

Sankranti, the festival of harvesting, is soon going to be celebrated and the two Telugu states have made preparations already for a week-long celebration full of traditional customs and various festive activities. Sankranti festivities are going to take place over a period of several days characterized by big family reunions, singing of traditional songs, and preparing unique sweets and delicacies. The Sankranti festival is very much celebrated and therefore, it is quite probable that a large number of the Telugu people will come back to their native towns to enjoy the festival with family members and friends.

Telangana Government Announces Sankranti Holidays

Telangana has presented a holiday calendar for schools and universities according to the celebrations. The Sankranti holidays have been extended to all academic institutions by the director of the Ministry of School Education, Naveen Nicholas. The announcement reads:

  • The Telangana state authorities have said that beginning of the second week in January, they will close all public and private schools, colleges, and other educational facilities for a week.
  • All schools that usually operate on Saturdays will be allowed to shutter their doors for academic purposes till the 18th of the month by 15 January 2020.
