Once again, the international scene is observing the New Year speech of Chinese President Xi Jinping with a great deal of interest. The oration not only highlights the domestic achievements of China but also points to its enormous role in keeping stability worldwide amidst the fluctuations of the time.
The moment of Xi’s speech was very important as it signified the end of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. Xi expressed that “our people have a growing sense of gain, happiness and security,” thus he was putting a people-centered development approach that is widely heard echoing even in places beyond China’s borders.
Analysts mention that the speech of Xi reflected the self-reliance of technology, growth driven by innovation, and high-quality development which were accompanied by climate and green agendas. The advances in AI, local semiconductor manufacturing and other industries are considered to be the ones that are bringing about China’s “new quality productive forces,” thereby affirming its long-lasting global impact.
Looking forward to 2026, which is the year when the 15th Five-Year Plan would be initiated, Xi vented his desire for extensive reforms, liberalization and everybody’s fruits of labor. He spoke of an uncertain world and the need for predictability and cooperation while residing in such a world.
These weren’t just murmurs that were nothearing in the case of the Global South. The relationship between China and Africa, for instance, is such that it has become an unchanging and dependable association which the 25th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which will be celebrated in 2025, has been one of the important markers. The total application of zero-tariff treatment to African countries has been one of the revolutionary measures since it is helping the production of value-added goods, making the African Continental Free Trade Area more vibrant and resilient, and providing economic stability in the event of global tariff wars that have caused other regions to become unstable.
President Xi declared China’s adherence to world peace and cooperation through multilateralism, thus introducing the Global Governance Initiative which is oriented towards creating a global system that is more equitable and participatory. The experts assert that the initiative not only empowers the previously neglected regions like Africa to be active players but also to take part in influencing the global governance on their own terms.
By the beginning of 2026, China is perceived more and more as a stabilizer, providing to the world the qualities of continuity, inclusiveness, and practical cooperation, while at the same time, transforming its vision into concrete actions domestically and internationally.
