Marvel Studios has made it official by dropping the very first teaser for Avengers: Doomsday, thus confirming the return of Chris Evans to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers. The teaser, having a runtime of just below 90 seconds, gives a very serene and meditative look at Rogers’ existence years after he quit being a superhero.
It reveals Rogers taking a motorcycle ride across a deserted area and finally getting to a small house. In a very meaningful scene, he is shown putting away his Captain America costume, indicating that he is still distanced from his previous position. A big surprise then is revealed by the teaser that — Rogers is a father now — the actor as he portrays a very gentle side of himself by holding a sleeping baby in his arms. The clip concludes with the line: “Steve Rogers Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”
The Avengers: Doomsday which is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo marks a return of the filmmakers to the franchise after the making of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While sharing the teaser on social media, the Russo brothers talked about their long association with the character of Steve Rogers and they mentioned that he had been their main source of emotional comfort during the process of the Avengers saga.
The picture is the fifth big Avengers title and the 39th in the MCU chronology. The main villain Doctor Doom will be played by Robert Downey Jr., and a gigantic cast consisting of characters from the Fantastic Four, the original X-Men, and the Thunderbolts will be the highlight of this movie.
Initially, Disney had planned to unveil the teaser in cinemas only, right before Avatar: Fire and Ash, as the exclusive sneak preview. However, once the teaser got out on the internet, and the audience’s feedback was not good regarding the staggered theatrical release, the studio then chose to put the teaser on digital platforms.
Chris Evans for the first time portrayed Steve Rogers in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), and during the arc of the character in Avengers: Endgame (2019), where Rogers chose a peaceful life in the past and handed over the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson. His return has given rise to speculation as to whether he would put on the iconic suit again or just live the life that is already revealed to the public.
The global release of Avengers: Doomsday in theaters will be on December 18, 2026.
