Apple’s strategy to diversify production outside China has accelerated, with Foxconn hiring nearly 30,000 employees in its Devanahalli iPhone manufacturing unit near Bengaluru in just 8–9 months. Remarkably, around 80% of these hires are women, many of whom are freshers.
Spanning 300 acres, this is India’s second-largest iPhone assembly plant. It initially produced the iPhone 16 and has now started manufacturing the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Approximately 80% of the mobile phones manufactured there would be exported to overseas markets.
Foxconn intends to increase its employees to 50,000, thus tripling its workforce by the conclusion of next year. This workplace operates like a small town giving out housing, hospitals, and schools as public utilities for workers.
India’s firstiPhone plant of the company in Tamil Nadu employs 41000 people at the moment, most of whom are women. Foxconn is particularly emphasizing the recruitment of females to lead in the areas of design and technology which corresponds with the company’s overall approach to diversity and upskilling.
