Google has introduced a Google Photos picker feature that lets iOS Gmail users on iPhones and iPads easily send photos and videos from their Google Photos library during email writing.
The attachment menu in Gmail provides users with four different options which include Drive and Files and Camera and Photos. The iOS system photo picker becomes accessible through the “Photos” option. The upcoming update will introduce to Gmail users an attachment menu which includes a dedicated “Google Photos” option that lets them view their Google Photos content without leaving the application.
What the New Google Photos Picker Offers
The updated picker will use the signed-in Gmail account automatically, which lets users share photos and videos without requiring additional authentication steps or permissions. This means no additional authentication is required to access the Google Photos library.
The main attributes of the product include the following elements:
- Search bar: One can type in the search field the specific photo or album they may want to see. The search can recognize album names to show recent search results.
- Multi-selection: As a handybenefit, users are allowed to select a smattering of photos and videos at the same time, thus appending a myriad of files all at once.
This will be introduced to the ecosystem for users with iOS, already implemented for Android through the simple photo picker.
Availability
The new Google Photos picker is not visible in Gmail for iOS yet. Google plans to release the feature through a server-side update which will enable automatic access without requiring users to download anything.
The new feature will become available to users when they update their Gmail app to their most current version.
