Google has very recently launched a feature where users can change their Gmail ID without hindrance to the current account’s data. Users now have an option of creating a new primary Gmail address while all the previously saved data is let alone.
Google said that the feature would gradually be made available to a larger number of users. After the switch has been done the user will not be affected by the transition, as all the email and other data like photos, messages, and files will still be there in the same storage. On the official support page, the company stated that content would continue to be preserved and retrievable even after the switch.
Google announced that the users would be able to use their old email addresses as well as the new one to access Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Drive. However, the creation of a new Gmail ID will be restricted for a span of 12 months after the creation of the new one. The previous email address will remain functional and usable at any time.
Under the Email section within Google Account Settings in the Personal Information category, the option of changing email will be indicated. Backing up of the data is highly recommended, as Google has promised not only that very strong security will be in place but also compromised settings in some of the apps due to the changes.
This feature will be especially useful for people who want to wipe off the past and start again but are also the kind who would not want to go through the not-so-simple process of data migration and managing multiple accounts.
