Infosys seeks WFH power-use data to meet ambitious carbon targets

Infosys campus signage representing the IT major’s push to track work-from-home energy use for sustainability goals.

Infosys requires its hybrid model employees in Bengaluru to disclose their home electricity usage for better carbon emissions tracking and sustainability development.

The company now includes residential power consumption which staff members use during their office work at home because most employees remain remote for work. The organization needs to assess all its carbon emissions sources which includes office and campus electricity consumption.

The data will enhance emissions calculations while ensuring compliance with international sustainability reporting standards according to individuals who know about the situation. The data will help the company monitor its progress on its climate targets which include reaching net-zero emissions.

Employees at Infosys received information that they can choose to share their electricity consumption data because the data serves environmental reporting purposes. The company is also said to be exploring ways to aggregate the information without identifying individual households.

As hybrid and remote work has become permanent in the post-pandemic workplace, Infosys has adjusted its sustainability measurements according to the needs of its employees who work remotely. Organizations that need to meet strict environmental social and governance standards have identified remote emissions tracking as their main challenge to accomplish their sustainability goals.

Infosys has introduced various green initiatives which include renewable energy usage, development of energy-efficient campuses, and implementation of carbon offset programs. The most recent action demonstrates how current work trends lead companies to alter their environmental assessment practices.
