BCCI has yet to create the schedule for 2026 Indian Premier League because state election dates remain unknown.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla said the board is awaiting official announcements from the government to avoid clashes between polling and matches in election-bound states. He explained to IANS that BCCI needs to guarantee both election procedures and tournament operations will proceed without interruptions.
The Assam Tamil Nadu and West Bengal states will conduct elections which creates doubts about the accessibility of important locations. The list of venues includes Barsapara Stadium which hosts Rajasthan Royals matches and MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
Shukla confirmed that the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchises need to select their home games locations and share this information within one week. The IPL schedule will be prepared only after clarity is received on both the election calendar and the teams’ venue decisions.
The Karnataka State Cricket Association received conditional permission to conduct IPL and international matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium located in Bengaluru. The Rajasthan Cricket Association needs to solve its administrative problems before it can determine the future of Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
The BCCI will begin its tasks after it receives all necessary approvals and official confirmations.
