IPL 2026 Mini Auction: SRH, RCB and Other Teams Enter With Massive Budgets

IPL 2026 mini auction to feature big-budget bids, surprise additions, and intense franchise strategies in Abu Dhabi.

The clock for the IPL 2026 mini-auction has ticked, and the franchises are already prepping for two days of intense bidding at the Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, on December 16. The auction is set to kick off at 2:30 PM IST and will feature a mix of capped and uncapped players, thus leading to fierce competition and shifting of some teams’ strategic plans for the next season.

Once again the BCCI has made the final shortlist of 350 players, which is the result of filtering over 1,355 registrations. In an unbelievable last-minute turn of events, 25 new names were added just before the completion—including the South African star Quinton de Kock, who had previously been left out of the list after he had announced his international retirement. After scoring a gorgeous century in his last ODI against India, de Kock has entered the auction with a starting price of ₹1 crore, which makes him one of the most attractive options for those teams that are looking for an aggressive wicketkeeper-batter.

The Sri Lankan players Dunith Wellalage, Traven Mathew, Binura Fernando, and Kusal Perera are also anticipated to be among the hottest picks during the auction.

Franchises Loaded With Big Budgets

Teams head into the mini auction with substantial purse strength:

  • Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lead with ₹64.3 crore, having released nine players.
  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hold ₹43.4 crore.
  • Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) enter with ₹25.5 crore, planning targeted buys.

A total of 77 slots—including 31 overseas spots—are available across all franchises. The accelerated auction rounds, covering players numbered 71 to 350, are expected to deliver rapid bidding wars, surprise picks, and intense strategic battles.

With teams determined to build stronger, more balanced squads, IPL 2026 is shaping up to be a season packed with unpredictability, standout performances, and high-stakes rivalry. The mini auction is set to play a decisive role in defining the narrative of one of cricket’s most competitive leagues.
