Delhi Capitals Eye Captaincy Overhaul Ahead of IPL Season 19; KL Rahul Set to Lead

KL Rahul expected to captain Delhi Capitals in IPL Season 19, replacing Axar Patel.

Just before the start of IPL season 19, Delhi Capitals are seriously considering a major management shift and KL Rahul is the one who will lead the team in place of Axar Patel. The franchise bets on Rahul’s knowledge and tranquil leadership to finally get the IPL title after a long wait of ten years.

Axar Patel, who had been the vice-captain for six years, took over the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals in IPL Season 18 and the team went on to win four matches in a row at the beginning. However, they could not maintain the performance and due to the wrong decisions finally ended up in fifth position and out of playoffs. Experts have it that the uncertain captaincy of Patel was one among the many reasons which led to the decline of the team’s performance by the end of the season.

Before Season 18, KL Rahul was already considered for the captaincy but he turned the offer down because of personal reasons, having just entered fatherhood. With no such limitations now, Delhi Capitals are going back to the idea of having him as a captain. Rahul has been a leader for a long time, as he has held the captaincy in the national team and IPL franchises Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. He has managed in 64 IPL games, winning 32 and having a 50% win rate.

Even though bein usually very active all the time, it has not happened yet that the Capitals have won the title throughout the years they have been participating in the tournament; thus, the management is wondering, if the strong guidance of Rahul could be the factor that the team finally reaches the cup. Season 19 is already in preparation for the Delhi Capitals, hoping to see the blessings of Rahul in changing the team’s fate.
