The record that Lady Superstar Nayanthara has set is one that is hard to find and very interesting at the same time in South Indian cinema. She was the leading lady in three different films, all having the same story outline and starring the three main hero stars. The interesting part is that all three films were eventually superhits at the box-office in both Telugu and Tamil.
The main idea presented in all these movies was an emotional trip followed by a couple’s separation and reconciliation, all this time with children or family to take care of. The movies, even with very similar stories, managed to be very close to the audience.
Tulasi (2007) – Venkatesh
“Tulasi” is a film that was directed by Boyapati Srinu and for which Venkatesh and Nayanthara were cast to play a married couple. Nayanthara’s character, because of her ego problems, wants to end the marriage with her husband. A very unexpected and emphatic turning point happens when the two of them come back together for their child’s sake, the child being a victim of a very powerful villain. One of the factors that contributed to the success of the film was the on-screen chemistry between Venkatesh and Nayanthara as it not only conquered the hearts of the audience but also a big part of the overall experience of the film.
Viswasam (2019) – Ajith Kumar
Viswasam, another movie, also took a similar emotional route, Ajith Kumar’s own director, Shiva. Ajith is a protector of the village and his wife leaves him with their child. At last, after a long period, he is the protector of his child and gives up his life to save her from danger, thus winning back his wife. The combination of Ajith and Nayanthara was very much liked by the audience and the film became a milestone for the Tamil film industry.
Mana Shankara Varaprasad Garu (2025) – Chiranjeevi
Directed by Anil Ravipudi, the film stars Megastar Chiranjeevi and Nayanthara. As before, the hero’s battle to keep his children and family safe brings up episodes of separation due to the ego clashes, followed by emotional mending. Though the story was very much like the stories that have been told before, the audience still appreciated the film because of its new and brilliant presentation and acting in the theatres.
A Unique Achievement
Nayanthara’s being in the three movies was the main reason and she did an excellent job acting together with Venkatesh, Ajith Kumar, and Chiranjeevi. Successfully making three big hits with almost similar plots is surely a rare achievement that strongly confirms Nayanthara’s status as one of the leading and most reliable actresses in the South Indian film industry.
