Stock Market Closed on Christmas: NSE & BSE Holiday Update

ndian stock markets remain closed on Christmas, with NSE and BSE resuming trading on December 26, 2025.

The BSE and NSE told the public that Indian stock markets would be closed on December 25, 2025, a Thursday, for Christmas which is a public holiday. No transfer of shares, futures, or currencies is allowed on that day at the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange. However, the very next day, which is Friday, December 26, 2025, the trading will resume as normal without any interruptions. This is the only stock market holiday for December and also the last one of the year.

The next closure of the stock market will be on January 26, 2026, for Republic Day. Having published its holiday trading calendar for the year 2026, the National Stock Exchange has signaled the market participants about the days when there will be no trading. The equities, derivatives and currency markets will be inactive for 15 days next year, which is one more day compared to the year 2025.

Festivals such as Mahashivratri, Eid-ul-Fitr, Independence Day, and Diwali Laxmi Pujan, which are major, will happen on weekends in the year 2026 making it fewer days for the market closures. Nevertheless, the market will do typical Muhurat Trading on Diwali Day, which is November 8, 2026 (Sunday). The timing for this exceptional one-hour session will be specified later.
