Prabhas After ‘Chakram’ Failure: Director Krishna Vamsi Opens Up on Their Relationship

Prabhas and director Krishna Vamsi during the Chakram phase, reflecting on professionalism beyond box-office results.

Veteran Tollywood director Krishna Vamsi has honestly revealed his professional relationships in the film industry, one of which is with actor Prabhas after their film ‘Chakram’ proved to be a commercial failure. The director in a recent interview, taught the lessons of success and failure in making and breaking the bonds between actors and directors.

According to Krishna Vamsi, the relationships in the movie world get created during the film making process since the actors are the ones who give life to a director’s concept and feelings through their performance. The whole artistic teamwork easily leads to the formation of intimacy and respect. Nonetheless, he pointed out that such relationships usually undergo a transformation after a movie is out, largely depending on its success or failure.

The filmmaker argued that if a movie is successful, the bond of admiration and love grows stronger. On the contrary, if it fails, the actors and directors might become distant from each other. Nevertheless, Krishna Vamsi was happy to recollect that even though ‘Chakram’ was a box office fiasco, Prabhas always honored him with his respect. The director stated that the actor had never badmouthed him and was always polite during their encounters, thus revealing Prabhas’s professionalism and moral character.

Krishna Vamsi also noted that each and every relationship in the film industry is basically the same as a business partnership. He further explained that the making of cinema is neither a charitable cause nor a public service, and thus the collaborations are based on the interest of both parties professionally instead of obligation.

Personal reflections

When discussing his private life, Krishna Vamsi mentioned that he is a loner type who loves to watch movies and read books. In addition, he is very happy with his wife Ramya Krishna and their child, and he calls this combination as essential for his artistic flow.

On Uttej and evolving relationships

The director also addressed his long-standing association with actor Uttej, whom he once described as “half of my name.” Krishna Vamsi admitted that human connections are changing constantly and never become fixed. He shared that at one point he pushed Uttej to be a director by complimenting his writing talent and his way of manifesting his ideas.

Nevertheless, he was still acknowledging that Uttej had a real talent for acting, as a result he didn’t direct ‘Mallepuvvu’ and instead projects like ‘Chandamama’ came into being.

To sum up, Krishna Vamsi stated that the film industry is far more than a job, it is a never-ending mental and emotional journey that is affected by the flow of creativity, relationships and shifting viewpoints through time.
