Baahubali’s great success turned Prabhas into a pan-India superstar from a typical regional actor. However, his journey through the film industry ever since has not been so smooth. The releases of Raja Saab and Radhe Shyam have been enormous box office failures, and thus fans are left in confusion about the reasons and choices the actor made.
Why Did Prabhas Lose His Momentum?
Before Baahubali, Prabhas got to be seen as an ordinary hero who just had a few successful films. But the ace collaboration with director S.S. Rajamouli turned his fate upside down immediately. The movie not only granted him fame across the country but also a loyal fan base. However, to keep this level of fame, one has to plan very carefully and it seems Prabhas has made some mistakes or is still making them.
When a star turns into a pan-India icon, he has to pick the most suitable directors and scripts for his image. Instead of being patient and choosing wisely, Prabhas is said to have jumped into the projects with directors of medium range who had no pan-India experience, thus leading to poor results and lost chances.
The Films That Didn’t Work
1. Saaho (2019)
Prabhas helped Sujeeth out and the latter had only directed a single movie that was released up to that point. Saaho was a successful film financially, but the viewer response was not entirely favorable and it received mixed reviews.
2. Radhe Shyam (2022)
The film was honestly a disappointment even for Prabhas’s most ardent admirers. The director, Radha Krishna, faced a lot of criticism, mainly due to his inability to manage the star’s persona and public perception, which eventually led to the film being labeled a major failure.
3. Adipurush (2023)
Adipurush turned out to be a disaster. Even if the narrative had potential, besides poor visual effects and Prabhas’s characterization the movie received a lot of negative feedback. The fans openly mocked the director Om Raut for the film’s bad handling.
4. Raja Saab (2026)
Fans were pretty positive about Prabhas returning to the right way after his upcoming two movies Salaar and Kalki, but when Raja Saab was released, it became a huge flop. Although the plot was different, the treatment of the movie completely failed. There were few moments where Prabhas was even bullied for being out of sync with his body and the trolling was very harsh.
The Real Issue
A certain pattern can be observed: whenever Prabhas provided opportunities to directors with no pan-India experience such as Radha Krishna and Maruti, the outcomes were dismal. Prabhas’ career appears to be adversely affected when he selects directors with no potential to cope with his star power and mass appeal.
What Should Prabhas Do Next?
It’s time for Prabhas to return for strong scripts and experienced directors. His upcoming ventures include:
- Spirit (Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga)
- Fauzi (Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi)
There is already a lot of buzz surrounding both films, and most fans are hoping that they will result in a return to form for him.
