The Raja Saab review buzz: Is Prabhas’ horror-comedy worth the hype?

Prabhas in a still from The Raja Saab, his first horror-comedy, gearing up for a festive Sankranti release.

Prabhas will return to the big screen next Friday with The Raja Saab, moving to the horror-comedy genre. It is Maruthi who leads the movie, a highly marketed mass entertainment, and Prabhas will share the screen with Malavika Mohanan, Riddhi Kumar, and Nidhhi Agerwal in key supporting roles which creates a very high expectation of its screening in cinemas.

The movie has already started to get good feedbacks even before its release in theaters. The first review reports suggest a strong mass appeal, with overseas critic Umair Sandhu describing The Raja Saab as a “paisa vasool” entertainer.

Based on the first reactions, The biggest strength and actor Prabhas’ performance of the film together marked a very strong comeback after a gap of one year. The role of Sanjay Dutt is said to be a pleasant surprise, with his scenes next to Prabhas being the most talked about. The last half hour of the movie is considered a masterstroke, creating a powerful impression.

Nevertheless, there are a few slow patches in the film. Critics think it is a very good choice for the Sankranti festival release. Nidhhi Agerwal got good reviews for her performance, and the music is also claimed to go along with the storyline nicely. The movie’s directing and the application of special effects have also been praised for making the horror-comedy experience richer.

Set to be viewed with a U/A certificate and a 189-minute prohibition, The Raja Saab is expected to be a blend of fun, imagination, and tear-jerker. The director Maruthi has portrayed the film as being approximately 50% humor, 20% fantasy, and 20% feelings, thus categorizing it as a full-blown horror-comedy targeted at the whole family.

The Raja Saab has early positive reviews and excellent festival timing, thus it is becoming a fun horror ride for the fans of Prabhas and commercial movies.
