The Raja Saab will begin its digital release after finishing its theatrical distribution. The Telugu horror-comedy which initially performed well at the box office but received mixed reviews now prepares to premiere on OTT platforms.
Jio Hotstar has secured the post-theatrical digital streaming rights for The Raja Saab according to industry sources. The agreement includes all major language versions which cover Telugu Tamil Malayalam Kannada and Hindi. The film will be available online soon although the official streaming date remains unconfirmed by either the producers or the streaming service.
Sources indicate that the cost of the OTT rights exceeded ₹80 crore. The agreement has a performance-based condition which requires the platform to pay extra money of ₹10 crore for each additional ₹100 crore that the film generates in worldwide box office revenue beyond the initial ₹200 crore threshold. This arrangement provides major financial benefits to the producers because the film used over ₹400 crore for its production costs.
The Raja Saab movie opened successfully at the box office with worldwide earnings exceeding ₹250 crore but its box office performance declined because of mixed-to-negative reviews which made it difficult for the film to reach profitability. The upcoming OTT release will provide the film with its second opportunity which will enable it to reach a broader audience throughout their homes.
