Sunny Deol’s Border 2 remains in theaters because it continues to attract audiences but the film fell short of entering the top 10 highest opening week box office results for Hindi movies. The multi-starrer earned ₹11 crore on Friday January 30 which represented a 2.22% decrease from Thursday earnings. The film has reached a total of ₹235.25 crore after it completed its eighth day in theaters.
The film started strongly with Day 1 total of ₹30 crore net which increased to ₹36.5 crore on Saturday and ₹54.5 crore on Sunday. The Republic Day holiday pushed box office revenue to an all-time high of ₹59 crore which established a new record for the highest first Monday collection of a Hindi movie. The weekday box office earnings dropped significantly to ₹20 crore on Tuesday and to ₹13 crore on Wednesday and to ₹11.25 crore on Thursday which resulted in a seven-day total of ₹224.25 crore.
Border 2 shows strong box office results against Mardaani 3 which leads to its current position as 11th highest first week box office results while it missed the top 10 by less than ₹5 crore. The film surpassed Chhaava and Dhurandhar which now occupy 12th and 13th position respectively.
The 1971 India-Pakistan war serves as the backdrop for Border 2 which Anurag Singh directed. Sunny Deol returns to his previous role while Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty join the cast. The film features Mona Singh and Sonam Bajwa and Anya Singh and Medha Rana who demonstrate the collaborative efforts between the Indian Army and Navy and Air Force.
