The Wankhede Stadium hosts its 25th match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which features a crucial Group C contest between the West Indies national cricket team and the Nepal national cricket team.
The Nepal cricket team experienced their first challenges after West Indies captain Shai Hope decided to bat first. Sompal Kami eventually brought success to Nepal through his aggressive batting performance.
The Early Collapse Was Followed By Nepal’s Recovery
The West Indies team executed their disciplined bowling throughout the match, which led to Nepal losing their sixth wicket after they reached 73 runs following 15 overs of play.
The team lost essential players through these critical dismissals:
Rohit Paudel – 5
Aasif Sheikh – 11
Kushal Bhurtel – 1
Aarif Sheikh – 2
Lokesh Bam – 13
Gulsan Jha – 11
The West Indies bowlers continued to apply pressure while Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph executed crucial wickets which reduced Nepal’s batting strength through their middle order.
Airee Anchors, Kami Accelerates
The team lost wickets continuously, but Dipendra Singh Airee maintained his position at the other end. The middle-order batter produced a stable innings through effective strike management and his ability to hit balls outside of the strike zone. He maintained control over the innings while his teammates got out.
The match shifted toward Nepal after Sompal Kami executed an aggressive batting performance which included three straight boundary hits to help the team achieve their 100-run total.
Nepal’s scoring rate increased during the death overs because his aggressive batting style created the necessary momentum for the team.
Match Situation
The Nepali cricket team reached 108 runs after losing six wickets across 18 overs, but Airee remained their primary batsman until Kami’s late batting performance increased their score.
West Indies will attempt to restrict Nepal’s scoring capabilities because they hold the top position in Group C with two match victories. A victory today would significantly strengthen their chances of advancing to the Super 8 stage.
