The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Monday accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of “blatant credit theft” in connection with the Kakinada Special Economic Zone (SEZ) land issue. Senior YSRCP leaders alleged that the current coalition government is taking undue credit for initiatives originally launched under former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
YSRCP: Jagan Fulfilled Farmers’ Promise Through GO No. 158
Speaking at a press conference in Kakinada, former ministers Kurasala Kannababu and Dadisetty Raja, along with former MP Vanga Geetha, said that Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised during the 2019 election campaign to return SEZ-acquired lands to farmers — a promise fulfilled through Government Order (GO) No. 158, issued on July 6, 2021.
They accused the Naidu-led government of merely issuing a memo to execute the same GO while misleading the public by portraying it as its own decision.
“Chandrababu Naidu has no legacy of his own and survives by stealing credit,” Kannababu said, pointing to projects such as green energy, fishing harbours, ports, and Bhogapuram International Airport, which he claimed were all initiated during YSRCP’s tenure.
‘Selling Land for 99 Paise’: YSRCP Targets Pawan Kalyan and TDP-JSP Alliance
Former minister Dadisetty Raja criticized Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s state tours, calling them “publicity stunts.” He alleged that the government is transferring valuable public lands to corporate entities at throwaway prices.
“Before elections, Chandrababu promised liquor for ₹99. Now, he’s selling land for 99 paise per acre,” Raja said sarcastically, accusing the coalition of prioritizing private interests over public welfare.
Former MP Vanga Geetha: ‘An Insult to Farmers’ Struggles’
Former MP Vanga Geetha described the government’s SEZ claims as “an insult to the farmers’ sacrifices,” saying that the administration is pushing Andhra Pradesh toward “liquor and lawlessness.”
She urged the government to acknowledge the groundwork laid by the previous YSRCP regime and to stop misleading the public on development projects.
