Hyderabad is going to get another big infrastructure project that will reduce traffic congestion and improve the commuting for IT personnel. The new six-lane expressway, which is now to be built by connecting Banjara Hills Road No. 12 with Shilpa Layout in Gachibowli, is the first step taken by the state government in this direction.
Preparations are on to draft a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and award a consultancy for the construction of the expressway as an elevated corridor in order to expedite the project. In this connection, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has publicly announced the opening of tenders for consultancy services.
The expressway, as per the proposal, will cut through Filmnagar, Judges Colony, Durgam Cheruvu, Tea Hub, and finally reach Shilpa Layout, thus affording an unhindered passage from the city center to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) through the Gachibowli junction.
The new expressway is expected to cover about 10 kilometers in total, out of which 6 to 7 kilometers will be a six-lane steel bridge. To facilitate the smooth movement of traffic, also part of the design are underpasses at important junctions which will enable vehicles to pass without interruptions.
The officials have revealed that the process of tendering will take about a week, after which the chosen consultancy will be required to deliver the detailed DPR in 90 days time. The expressway will, upon completion, reduce travel time by a great deal and solve the daily traffic problem of western Hyderabad commuters.
