The collaboration of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s acting and Boyapati Srinu’s directing resulted in a massive excitement for the upcoming release of Akhanda 2: Tandavam. The follow-up to the blockbuster Akhanda was made possible by the duo Ram Achanta and Gopichand Achanta who are the main pillars of the 14 Reels Plus production house, and Tejaswini Nandamuri, Balakrishna’s daughter, was the executive producer. The main cast of the film comprises Samyuktha Menon, Aadhi Pinisetty, and the child artist Harshali Malhotra.
Themes such as smooth jazz, tribal beats, and soul were composed by the notable music director who contributed an exceptional musical background through the high budgeted movie.Cinematography was handled by C Ram Prasad and Santosh D Detake, art direction by AS Prakash, editing by Thammiraju and action choreography by Ram-Laxman. Kota Paruchuri served as the executive producer. After resolving financial hurdles, the film was released on December 12, with premieres held on December 11.
Following the massive success of Akhanda, the Balakrishna–Boyapati combination generated strong pre-release business. Akhanda 2 reportedly did worldwide business worth Rs 103 crore, with a break-even target of around Rs 104 crore share, translating to approximately Rs 208 crore gross collections.
The movie was off to a great start, as the producers officially announced a collection of Rs 59.5 crore globally from the premieres and Day 1. To be more specific, in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, it registered a net collection of Rs 25.25 crore and a gross collection of Rs 38.25 crore on its first day of release. Around the world, Day 1 numbers were estimated by the trade to be Rs 30 crore net and Rs 48.85 crore gross.
However, collections witnessed a steep fall on Day 2, with a drop of over 45 percent. The film reportedly collected around Rs 9 crore net and Rs 18 crore gross worldwide on the second day. In India, it earned approximately Rs 15 crore net from Telugu states, while Hindi, Kannada and Tamil versions contributed modest numbers. Total India net collections stood close to Rs 50 crore by the end of Day 2.
In overseas markets, Akhanda 2 collected around $601K from premieres and Day 1 in North America. Day 2 added about $50K, while early estimates suggest Day 3 collections of around $125K. Overall, North America earnings are expected to be close to $750K.
As for Day 3, trade reports indicate that the film is struggling at the box office. Ticket bookings on platforms like BookMyShow and district-level apps remain lukewarm. On the third day, the film is expected to collect between Rs 10 crore and Rs 12 crore gross. With this, total worldwide gross collections are estimated to be around Rs 90 crore so far.
With such a sharp drop after the opening day, industry watchers are now questioning how quickly Akhanda 2: Tandavam can recover its massive investment and enter the profit zone.
