Hyderabad is on the brink of a major improvement in modern city’s infrastructure as the Telangana government is extending the operation hours of Metro Rail and city buses up to 2 AM, thus making it easy and safe to travel around the entire city late at night. This initiative is a part of the state’s ambitious Telangana Rising-2047 vision for the future.

The Telangana Rising Global Summit saw the presentation of this plan which seeks to change Hyderabad into a worldwide city, a sustainable, low-carbon footprint city, and even ‘Night Time Capital of South Asia’. Consequently, the major business and leisure hubs such as Madhapur, Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Tank Bund, Old City and the Airport corridor will become the designated night zones.

Extended RTC and Metro services will play a key role in boosting nightlife, tourism, and economic activity. The government also plans cultural initiatives like the ‘Hyderabad After Dark Mile’, featuring night bazaars and food festivals stretching from Charminar to Golconda via Tank Bund.

Another area of concern is tourism development, and a unified ‘Telangana Pass’ has been introduced as the main tool for travel, hotel bookings and ticketing. Besides, the government is planning to launch 27 tourist circuits across the state, helicopter services, eco-trails, and new resorts as part of the larger strategy.

According to the officials, these measures will not only improve safety and mobility at night but also increase employment, support tourism and develop Hyderabad into a modern city that is globally competitive.
