Prior to the IPL mini-auction for 2026, Green, the Australian player, has cleared up his auction registration confusion. His explanation would have been that his manager misjudged the situation and put him in the category of pure batsman which was the mistake he intended the manager to fit him into.
The IPL 2026 mini-auction would occur in Abu Dhabi on the 16th of December, and it would witness 350 players striving for 77 available positions. Out of this total, 240 are Indian players while 110 are foreign cricketers.
Green’s name showing up in the “pure batter” category, which has a minimum price of ₹2 crore, has ignited a debate as the player from Australia is mainly recognized as a bowling all-rounder of fast pace. His placement in Set 1 of the auction raised doubts over whether he would bowl this season, potentially impacting his auction value.
“I Am Fully Ready to Bowl,” Says Green
Addressing the issue ahead of the third Test of the Ashes series in Adelaide, Green explained that the registration error may have occurred unintentionally.
“I am completely ready to bowl. I don’t think my manager even realised that I was registered only as a batter. He may have accidentally selected the wrong option. I’m not sure how it happened,” Green told reporters.
Strong IPL Track Record
At the auction, Cameron Green was purchased for ₹17.50 crores and played his first match in IPL 2023. He was a part of the Mumbai Indians team, and with 452 runs and 6 wickets, he became the team’s highest scorer, thereby demonstrating his all-rounder ability once again.
In 2024, he was exchanged to the Royal Challengers of Bengaluru, where he became a team contributor by scoring 255 runs and taking 10 wickets. But a physical issue hindered his performance as he was unable to participate in the IPL season of 2025.
High Expectations in IPL 2026 Auction
In excellent shape and in top condition, Green is still going to be the cause of great bidding war in the auction though there was a misunderstanding about his registration. His extraordinary fast-bowling all-rounder skill will turn him into the most wanted foreign player in IPL 2026.
Even after the announcement, the expectation continues that Cameron Green could be the next auction superstar.
