US: 30 Indians Among 49 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in California

US Border Patrol officers conduct immigration checks at a California highway checkpoint during a recent enforcement operation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that around 49 illegal aliens were arrested by the law enforcement officers of California at checkpoints of immigration in the state, out of which 30 were recognized to be Indian citizens.

The Border Patrol mentioned in a press release that the arrests of the illegal aliens occurred during the inspections of pedestrians and also during the execution of some operations that had been planned. Among the detainees were illegal immigrants that were driving semi-trucks with commercial driver’s licenses, and some were just living in America without legal status.

This operation is part of the strict enforcement measures that were introduced by the Trump administration, which has recently made a decision to stop issuing work visas and commercial driver’s licenses to foreign truckers as a result of a number of road accidents in the U.S. The government is particularly focused on the detection of non-authorized drivers of heavy commercial vehicles.

The government’s new initiative included an operation by the Border Protection agents during the period from November 23 to December 12, where 42 illegal immigrants were arrested in connection with the unlawful driving of commercial trucks. Out of 42 individuals, 30 were from India, and others were from China, Mexico, Russia, Turkey, and other countries.

In addition, authorities confirmed that seven more illegal immigrants were taken into custody during Operation ‘Highway Sentinel’, a separate enforcement action carried out in California.

US officials said investigations are ongoing and reiterated that enforcement efforts will continue to ensure compliance with immigration and transport safety laws.
