Smriti Mandhana Breaks Her Own Record for Most Runs in a Calendar Year in Women’s Cricket

Smriti Mandhana celebrates her record-breaking innings after surpassing 1,700 runs in the 2025 calendar year for India.

Smriti Mandhana’s remarkable run in 2025 not only jarred but also made her our history making women’s cricket. Indian opener Mandhana obliterated her what was a record for the most runs in a year during the exhilarating fourth T20I match against Sri Lanka, where she played the leading role of deciding the match.

One of the main reasons why she was so successful was because he had the privilege of being the first player to bat on the newly constructed Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, and she scored a lovely 80 runs off 48 balls. The Indian batting had a good start because of her runs made through 11 fours and three sixes. Besides, she and Shafali Verma, who scored 79, made a partnership of 162 runs for the first wicket which is a record and put Sri Lanka in an extremely difficult position at the very start of the match.

In addition to the match winning performance, the knock also gave Mandhana her first win of the match award and brought her total runs for the year up to 1,703 which is the highest ever for players in a single calendar year in women’s international cricket and she is the first female cricketer to score more than 1,700 runs in a year.

Mandhana was the name that came first in the list of top scorers along with her record of runs in all the formats throughout the year 2024 which were 1,659. In 2025, however, she has already beaten that number with fewer matches and through the milestone of 32 internationals as compared to 35 last year. Included in her count for 2025 are six tons and seven fifties.

This year, 2023 to be specific, Mandhana has performed extraordinarily well in ODIs with 1,362 runs from 23 matches. Besides she has 341 runs in nine T20Is which makes her the sole woman cricketer to cross the 1,000 ODI runs mark in the calendar year. Her consistency paired with aggressive stroke-play has made her one of the world cricket’s finest performers.

To be more specific, Mandhana’s success was nothing but a string of achievements. In the course of the same match, she overtook Harmanpreet Kaur and thereby became India’s leading six-hitter in women’s T20Is. Her sixes count now stands at 80 for India in this format, thus going past Harmanpreet’s figure of 78.

In addition to that, the Indian vice-captain now finds her name in the very select group of women international cricketers who have scored ‘10,000-runs’. The player is the fourth to be seen along with Mithali Raj, Charlotte Edwards, and Suzie Bates. Also, Mandhana is the fastest batter of the world to touch the milestone, as it took her only 280 innings.

Record-breaking, power-packed, and match-winning performances thus far, Smriti Mandhana keeps setting new standards and confirming her status among the greatest women cricket batters ever.
