Google’s Year in Search 2025 has given us a delightful glimpse of the internet’s appetite in this year. Users looking for the latest culinary trends turned to food-related searches, which became among the most-searched categories along with news and sports.
As per Google, a search was considered trending if the interest in it increased significantly and for a long time in comparison to 2024. Although the annual report featured major events in the fields of news, sports, and entertainment, food and drink ranked high among the categories with the most internet searches in 2025.
The curiosity was primarily about matcha-flavoured items, with the banana pudding matcha latte and the strawberry matcha ice cream being the top food searches. Another was caviar chicken nuggets which were served at high-end restaurants, such as the NYC hotspot Coqodaq, thus offering a combination of luxury and comfort food.
Eating habits were still influenced by social media with TikTok famous dishes creating a huge interest. The recipes that made it to the list were dumpling bake, cabbage boil, and carrot salad while pasta dishes like Turkish pasta and ditalini pasta also gained strong popularity. However, the hot honey cottage cheese sweet potato beef bowl was the most searched recipe of the year and it came from the top list of viral dishes.
Food lovers were also on the lookout for trending products. Fruit pastries, lemon ice cream, and the extremely popular Starbucks Bearista Cup were the main items on the list. The bear-shaped glass tumbler created a buying mania, and many shops could not keep it in stock as it sold out in a matter of minutes.
Some trends were so powerful that they got their own categories. There was a steady increase in the searches for cold foam flavors, Dubai chocolate recipes, dishes based on cottage cheese, and foods with pickle flavor all through the year. The potatoes, being the least unique and so on were brown butter chocolate chip cookie, Dubai chocolate strawberries, blueberry cottage cheese breakfast bake, and pickle-flavored cucumber chips, each leading one category.
According to Google, the food trends in 2025 depict a year that was mainly characterized by recipe ideas coming from social media, surprising flavor combinations, and enjoying and innovating in daily meals that are more than usual.
