The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is all set to create a perfect match between the 158-km Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the new Regional Ring Road (Triple R), which is to be constructed for the purpose of making road transportation more effective round the city. A lot of big development projects are going to be done in between these two important corridors, so HMDA is concentrating on establishing a solid system of radial roads that would provide easy access.
At present, around 11 state and national highways intersect the ORR. These highways will be integrated with both the ORR and the Regional Ring Road. As part of its long-term plan, HMDA intends to construct a radial road every 7 to 8 kilometres around the ORR, each of which will be linked directly to the Triple R.
Elevated Corridor and New Road Links
An elevated steel corridor spanning 9 km is currently under planning from Banjara Hills Road No. 12 to Shilpa Layout via Film Nagar and ITC Kohinoor, with a direct connection to the ORR. HMDA is preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for this corridor. Meanwhile, the Defence Department is in the process of acquiring nearly 15 acres of private land required for the project.
Greenfield road works have already commenced for a 41-km stretch from Raviryala (ORR Exit 13) to Amanagallu, linking the ORR with the Triple R. The project is being executed by L&T and Rithvik Constructions.
In addition, HMDA has drawn up plans for another 81-km road connecting the ORR near Vardhaman College, close to Shamshabad Airport, to Lagacharla. More city-to-ORR roads, and further links from ORR to Triple R, will be developed in a phased manner.
New City-Level Connectivity Plans
In order to enhance the accessibility of the city, the construction of a 7-kilometer long road is planned from Sheikhpet to Manikonda, which will also link the regions around My Home Avatar and MGIT. The Traffic and Transportation Department of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has come up with the idea of expanding the Nanakramguda–Outer Ring Road section by introducing two more lanes.
Land Acquisition Process Begins
The government has issued a notification to begin land acquisition for the second greenfield radial road project connecting the ORR to the Triple R. Under this plan, HMDA will construct a four-lane, 81-km radial road from ORR Budvel near National Highway 167 to Nacharam.
In this undertaking, there is going to be the purchase of 45.05 acres of land in the village of Machanpally in the Shabad mandal and 95.72 acres in the village of Mutpur in the Kondurg mandal of Rangareddy district. The officials have completed the field inspections and have chosen the land parcels that are necessary. Compensation will be determined following the formal acquisition process.
Meanwhile, construction of the 41-km greenfield radial road connecting Future City and the Triple R from Raviryala to Amangal is already underway, with on-ground works progressing steadily.
