Raja Saab, the movie featuring Prabhas as the protagonist, did not manage to gather much audience during the first two days which led to the total worldwide gross of ₹138 crores. There was a positive response at the start, but there was a major drop in Day 2 collections which indicated that not many people would come to the cinema during the first weekend.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection stands at ₹90.75 crore after two days, while overseas markets contributed approximately ₹30 crore. This takes the total worldwide gross to around ₹138.30 crore.
Nevertheless, the production company provided somewhat different numbers asserting that The Raja Saab gained ₹112 crore globally on the first day itself. The producers termed the opening as the largest ever for a horror-fantasy film, emphasizing its all-India popularity.
In comparison, Prabhas’ previous release Kalki 2898 AD had collected nearly ₹298 crore worldwide by the end of Day 2, including ₹149.3 crore net from India alone. The contrast has led trade analysts to label The Raja Saab’s initial performance as underwhelming by Prabhas’ standards.
The Raja Saab hit the theaters all over India on January 9 in five different languages – Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Maruthi is the man behind the camera and People Media Factory along with IVY Entertainment is the investment behind the film. The prominent characters of the movie consist of Sanjay Dutt, Boman Irani, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, and Riddhi Kumar.
Prabhas while discussing the film stated that it was meant to be a totally entertaining piece with the action category becoming more and more popular. He highly appreciated the script by the director Maruthi and particularly the ending and also wished that the film would attract a lot of viewers during the Sankranti festival.
Conversely, critics’ reviews have been mixed. The reviews said that the film, which is based on the horror-comedy genre, is not able to deliver laughs as it was intended and thus lacks the audience in terms of depth and execution.
The weekend is very important for the film and the trade people will be watching very carefully whether the The Raja Saab can get back to the box office with the help of positive word of mouth.
