Virat Kohli: “I Don’t Like Fans Booing Other Players”

Virat Kohli celebrates India’s victory vs New Zealand, focusing on team success and fans’ smiles over personal milestones.

Virat Kohli, the top batsman of the Indian cricket team, unreservedly shared his thoughts about the crowd’s behavior and was very certain that he would not be part of the situation wherein the players who were out were being booed the loudest as a display of the audience’s disapproval. He recognized the crowd’s support but at the same time described such reactions as unjust, mentioning the case of MS Dhoni, who underwent similar treatment, as an example. Thus, he always puts the team’s victory over personal records.

In the opening ODI game of the three-match series against New Zealand at Vadodara, Kohli was just 7 runs short of a century, scoring 93 runs off 91 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes. However, India won the match by 4 wickets and Kohli was awarded the Player of the Match. In his acceptance speech, he mentioned that he finds the cheers of the fans more pleasant than the personal records.

“I will send all these awards to my mother.” She will be extremely proud and will take good care of them. But on the other hand, it feels like a dream that has been realized. It was really tough for me to reach this stage and I am very grateful for it,” Kohli said.

Kohli went to the crease saying that he is thinking about the team’s victory not his personal success. Coming at number three, he changes his game plan according to the match situation playing aggressively when quick runs are needed.

“Honestly, if I don’t get a hit today, it’s just as soon.” I try to focus only on the game. Seeing fans smile makes me happier than centuries,” said Kohli.

Match Highlights:

  • India vs New Zealand 1st ODI: India won by 4 wickets
  • Kohli: 93 runs off 91 balls, 8 fours, 6 sixes
  • Man of the Match: Virat Kohli
