He recognized the crowd’s support but at the same time described such reactions as unjust, mentioning the case of MS Dhoni, who underwent similar treatment, as an example. Thus, he always puts the team’s victory over personal records.

In the opening ODI game of the three-match series against New Zealand at Vadodara, Kohli was just 7 runs short of a century, scoring 93 runs off 91 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes. However, India won the match by 4 wickets and Kohli was awarded the Player of the Match. In his acceptance speech, he mentioned that he finds the cheers of the fans more pleasant than the personal records.
