Greater Noida Accident: Man Dies After Car Falls Into Water-Filled Pit; Fog and Speed Suspected

Dense fog along Greater Noida roads where a car plunged into a water-filled pit, leading to a fatal accident in Sector 150.

A police officer said on Sunday that a 27-year-old software engineer had an unfortunate death when his car crashed into a water-filled pit 20 feet deep in Greater Noida’s Sector 150. The first reports point out that the ill-fated mishap was brought about by a mixture of factors such as fog making it hard to see and driving too fast.

The disaster struck at approximately 1:30 am on Saturday, 17th January, whilst the unfortunate person was returning from his workplace. The police claimed that the car lost its control, went through a drain, and landed in the pit which was dug for the basement of a building that was under construction.

The police officer on duty at the Knowledge Park station informed the police about the deadly road mishap at around 12:15 a.m., and thus, a huge search and rescue operation was started right away. The operation to find the vehicle and the driver involved the fire brigade, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and nearby police forces.

The dead body was found at about 4:00 a.m. according to the words of Hemant Upadhyay, Additional Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida). The lifeless was disclosed to be Yuvraj Mehta, whose residential address was Tata Eureka Park society in Sector 150. He had a job as a software engineer in a well-known company located in Gurugram.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the accident might be a result of combination of factors such as dense fog and high speed,” police commented, revealing that the corpse has been dispatched for post-mortem examination and that the inquiry is still going on.

In addition to this, the event led to the local society taking to the streets with protests and putting the Noida Authority to blame for being careless. The protesters pointed out that the fencing around the pit and the drainage was not sufficient and that there were no light signals despite numerous complaints on their part about the same issue. They mentioned that such mishaps had happened earlier and that the absence of safety measures was still a great danger to the road users.

The administration has assured that the issue is under consideration during the investigation.
