Secunderabad Railway Station Redevelopment Nears 50% Completion Under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Construction work at Secunderabad Railway Station redevelopment site under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

The redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station which serves as the busiest and most historic location for South Central Railway operations has reached 50 percent of its development progress. The ambitious project which the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme supports will reach its completion date at the end of 2026.

The station redevelopment creates a contemporary transit center which delivers enhanced passenger amenities and better transit connections through system enhancements. Girdharilal Construction Private Limited handles the project which has a projected cost of ₹714.73 crore.

SCR officials confirmed that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) building has been fully completed which creates a significant milestone for the redevelopment initiative. The construction process currently takes place on multiple essential project elements, which include:

  • Air concourse
  • Multi-level car parking (MLCP)
  • Foot over bridges (FOBs)
  • Elevators
  • North-side main building
  • South-side electrical substation

Key Development Updates

South Side Construction

  • Basement work is 90% complete
  • Ground floor will be used as a passenger drop-off zone
  • Basement will accommodate parking for nearly 200 vehicles

North Side Progress

  • Construction of a six-storey MLCP facility is underway
  • More than half of the foundation work is complete

Power Infrastructure Upgrade

The upgraded station complex now requires two new 33 kV substations which replace the existing 11 kV system. The system guarantees continuous power delivery to the advanced facilities.

Minimal Disruption and Modern Amenities

SCR officials said the redevelopment is being carried out with minimal disruption to existing passenger services. The new station complex will feature:

  • Modern architecture and energy-efficient design
  • Spacious waiting halls
  • Escalators and lifts
  • Digital information systems
  • Enhanced safety infrastructure

A senior SCR official declared that “the redevelopment works are being monitored through close supervision which helps to maintain both work tempo and construction quality while all safety protocols are being followed.
