Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2026 Boycott Claims Appear Political, Team Travel Plans Already in Place

Pakistan Cricket Board officials amid T20 World Cup 2026 discussions as the team prepares to travel to Colombo.

The new information from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shows that the T20 World Cup 2026 boycott threat which people discussed becomes political posturing instead of actual withdrawal plans.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament banned Bangladesh from participating in the event after they refused to compete in India which led to Pakistan expressing their displeasure about the ICC decision. The country showed brief interest in a boycott of the upcoming biennial event which India and Sri Lanka will host together starting on February 7.

However, insiders indicate that the PCB’s public stance may not reflect its actual plans.

According to PTI sources Naqvi informed the Prime Minister that the PCB will investigate all available options which serve as its primary mission to safeguard Pakistan cricket’s future and maintain its ties with the ICC and other cricket boards.

The source reported that Mohsin Naqvi the PCB Chairman told Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that all available options should create a stable future for Pakistan cricket while maintaining positive relationships with both the ICC and member boards.

The evidence shows that a total boycott never became a genuine possibility because of financial implications. Experts estimate Pakistan cricket will experience financial losses of more than ₹300 crore if they withdraw from the T20 World Cup which will lead to major financial issues for the sport.

The sources confirmed that Pakistani media reports about an upcoming boycott are false because Pakistan already received approval to play matches at neutral venues. Additionally, India has agreed to face Pakistan in ICC events at neutral locations, further weakening the grounds for any protest.

“The Indian government has refused to send its team to Pakistan, but there is no restriction on India playing Pakistan in ICC or Asia Cup events at neutral venues,” a source noted. “So there is little justification for a boycott when politics has officially been kept separate from sport.”

The PCB officials have confirmed that they have already established travel arrangements for their upcoming activities. The Pakistan team will depart to Colombo on February 2 to participate in its group-stage matches.

A PCB official announced that the board has organized travel arrangements which will take the squad to Colombo starting at 5 AM on February 2.

The Pakistan team will start its T20 World Cup 2026 tournament on February 7 when they face the Netherlands which shows their almost certain participation in the event.
