The creators of S.S. Rajamouli’s upcoming action-adventure film Varanasi have revealed details about their planned movie release and promotional efforts. The film which operates under Sri Durga Arts and Showing Business will begin its theatrical run on April 7 2027 with K.L. Narayana and S.S. Karthikeya serving as producers.

S.S. Karthikeya who produces the film explained why they selected April 7 as the release date. The Ugadi and Gudi Padwa festival period together with Ambedkar Jayanti and Rama Navami activities create an extensive theatrical window which meets our strategic needs and stakeholder requirements.

The Varanasi marketing campaign started with a secret installation which appeared in the city to create interest among people and motivate them to participate. Karthikeya said that they wanted to start their movie release discussion from Varanasi because it represents the main location of the film.

The film tells its ambitious story which takes place during a time span of thousands of years across multiple continents which include Antarctica Africa and the Indian city of Varanasi. One important scene in the movie draws from the Indian epic Ramayana because it connects the story to the Rama Navami festival.

The movie features Mahesh Babu as its main actor who stars with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The team brings back their previous partners who worked with Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani who gained worldwide recognition through his work on RRR’s Naatu Naatu track.

The film RRR achieved historic success by becoming one of India’s most successful movies which received worldwide acclaim through its Academy Awards wins.

Rajamouli uses Varanasi to establish his worldwide artistic presence through his storytelling method which he connects to festival release dates and his marketing efforts for the film.
