The year 2023 has already seen the release of the precursor to the smasher of 2022, and it will soon be available for OTT viewing. The film by Rishab Shetty, who also co-wrote and stars, purports to tell the mystical story about the creation of a legendary protector of ancient Karnataka; in doing so, it bridges between folklore, history, and Daiva traditions. The digital streaming rights were allegedly being acquired by Amazon Prime Video for Rs 125 crore.

Reportedly according to Pinkvilla, Kantara: Chapter 1 was bought by Amazon Prime Video and hence, it was the second highest Kannada film to be paid for post-theatrical streaming, after KGF 2. Reports so far have suggested the film would release in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi, thus giving it a pan-India exposure.
The report published on OTT Play also suggests the film might ideally start streaming on Prime Video from October 30, 2025, following approximately a month’s period post-theatrical release. The simultaneous release will comprise all the four languages, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, whereas the Hindi release is said to be after about eight weeks. The makers have not come out with an official word yet.

Early Reception
Rishab Shetty remains, perhaps, the singular luminary reckoned with the title of director-actor of repute. All of social media praises him for his all-consuming acting and vision-shattering direction. Supporting actors also received noble appreciation for their gritty portrayals. Now, audiences do recommend the Kannada original, so one can truly savor the film’s ying-yang of cultural nuances and storytelling.
