ICC Responds to Pakistan’s Decision to Boycott India Match at T20 World Cup 2026

ICC Reacts to Pakistan Boycotting India Match at T20 World Cup 2026

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reacted to Pakistan’s decision to boycott its group-stage match against India at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 because Pakistan’s selective match participation threatens to damage the global cricketing system.

Pakistan announced on Sunday that it will participate in the tournament but will not compete in the highly anticipated India match which is scheduled for February 15. The official statement from the ICC confirms that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet provided any official information about their decision.

The governing body announced that Pakistan issued a statement which ICC received through official channels. The organization stated that this position creates difficulties which make it impossible to follow the main rule that requires all eligible teams to participate in the event according to the established timetable.

The ICC established its tournament operations to follow principles which protect fair competition and athletic integrity because international competitions need to maintain their fundamental nature. The ICC determined that this decision did not support the worldwide cricket community or the interests of cricket fans around the world especially in Pakistan.

The governing body urged the PCB to reconsider its position because it would produce long-term effects which would impact cricket development throughout Pakistan. The statement explained that the ICC expects the PCB to assess how its decision will impact cricket development because this decision will have international consequences which Pakistan will experience in global cricket activities.

The ICC stated that all member boards must fulfill their respective duties to support T20 World Cup execution operations which it manages. The organization requested the PCB to establish a solution which meets the needs of all parties involved while protecting their essential interests.

Pakistan has been assigned to Group A which includes India Namibia the Netherlands and the United States. Pakistan will play all its group matches in Sri Lanka which shares hosting duties with India during the tournament. The team will start its tournament on February 7 against the Netherlands and then play the USA on February 10 and Namibia on February 18.

Pakistan will receive an automatic two-point deduction under ICC playing conditions because it will not participate in the India match. The team will lose their net run rate advantage because the tournament rules state that the whole 20 overs from the team which defaults will be counted to calculate their run-rate statistics.

The ICC awaits an official response from the PCB about the situation which continues to develop.
