The compact SUV market in India will experience significant changes during the next two years as multiple car manufacturers plan to introduce new petrol and electric vehicles. Hyundai Tata Kia Volkswagen and Renault are preparing to introduce new products which will target one of India’s rapidly expanding automotive markets. The upcoming five compact SUVs set to launch between 2026 and 2027.
- Renault Mini Duster
Renault is developing a compact SUV model which will measure under four meters and serve as an entry-level vehicle between their existing Duster model and the next-generation version. The upcoming model which the company refers to as the “Mini Duster” will replace Kiger’s rounded crossover design with a Duster-inspired upright form that features robust design elements. The vehicle displays characteristics that include a high hood design, boxy body structure, strong wheel arch features, and visible body protection elements.
The SUV will feature Renault’s 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine as its main power source which will provide both manual and CVT transmission options. The launch is expected as early as next year.
- Volkswagen Compact SUV
Volkswagen plans to introduce its first entry into the Indian compact SUV market through a new model that will use the Kylaq concept as its foundation. The SUV will launch in mid-2027 and will use the MQB A0 IN platform as its base but it will create an original Volkswagen vehicle design instead of a standard rebadging process. The system will operate with a 1.0-liter TSI turbo-petrol engine that produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm of torque.
- Tata Punch EV Facelift
Tata Motors has announced the exterior appearance of their Punch EV facelift which will launch on February 20 2026. The updated electric micro-SUV gets a more upright front fascia with a closed grille, drawing inspiration from the Harrier EV. The design modifications include a new front bumper which comes with a scuff plate and Nexon EV-style aero alloy wheels and a new yellow paint option with a contrasting black roof. The Punch EV will maintain its current 25 kWh and 35 kWh battery systems while the interior will receive new features and technological advancements.
- Hyundai Compact Electric SUV
Hyundai is developing a made-in-India compact electric SUV, internally codenamed HE1i, with a market launch confirmed for 2027. The new EV will measure under four meters and use the Hyundai Inster global concept as its base while being adapted to meet Indian driving needs. The product will provide two battery options, with the standard version expected to deliver a real-world driving range of around 300–350 km.
- Kia Syros EV
Kia is developing its first entry-level electric SUV which will use the Syros name as its foundational design. The upcoming EV will take design inspiration from the EV2 concept and will offer two different battery pack selections. The cabin design will include contemporary features that provide users with advanced technology and comfort amenities which appeal to electric vehicle customers who live in cities.
The upcoming compact SUVs will boost competition in the sub-four-metre segment through their dual powertrain systems which combine internal combustion engines with electric engines and they will provide customers with additional vehicle options during the upcoming two years.
