P. V. Sindhu Returns Home After Dubai Stranding, Pulls Out of All England Open

PV Sindhu Returns to India After Dubai Stranding, Withdraws from All England Open 2026

Badminton player P. V. Sindhu from India has returned to her home country after her Dubai trip ended because of increasing conflicts in the Middle East which made her cancel her participation in the All England Open Badminton Championships.

The former world champion was en route to Birmingham for the tournament when flight operations across parts of the Gulf were suspended following U. S. and Israeli strikes on Iran and the subsequent retaliation. The conflict caused Dubai, which serves as one of the busiest international aviation hubs in the world, to suspend its flight operations.

Travel Chaos Forces Withdrawal

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed on Tuesday that Sindhu had officially withdrawn from the tournament. She had been scheduled to face Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in the opening round and has now been replaced by Taiwan’s Hsu Wen-chi.

Dubai Airports announced that partial flight operations had resumed two days after air traffic in the area had been disrupted because of ongoing conflicts which prevented normal air travel operations from returning to normal.

Sindhu posted on social media after returning home to Bangalore which she described as a safe location. The last few days have been intense and uncertain, but I’m truly grateful to be back to my house.

The situation made her feel extremely terrified which she described as “extremely tense and scary. ” She described the explosion which occurred outside her dormitory in Dubai. She was travelling with her team, including Indonesian coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama.

The situation showed her that everyday life remains vulnerable at all times because people need to confront danger.

The two-time Olympic medallist showed appreciation to Dubai airport staff and authorities who assisted him during his travel emergency after he reached India. The ground teams and airport workers at immigration showed outstanding professionalism and compassion throughout what she described as a “very difficult time.”

Wider Regional Escalation

The Israeli military expanded its attacks on Iranian and Hezbollah targets after the Middle Eastern conflict reached its most intense point. Tehran launched missile and drone strikes that hit Israel multiple Gulf nations and a British military base in Cyprus which increased concerns about an extended conflict throughout the region.

The BWF The BWF confirmed that The Thai mixed doubles third seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran withdrew from the tournament due to travel disruptions.

Sindhu needs to concentrate on her recovery process. “For now, it’s time to rest, reset, and figure out the next steps,” she said.

Her withdrawal from the tournament represents an unfortunate setback before one of badminton’s most important international events yet her safe return stands as the most significant relief for both fans and her entire sports community.
