Tamil Nadu Weather Update Today: IMD Issues Red Alert for Thiruvallur, Ranipet; Heavy Rain Forecast for Chennai, Vellore, Salem

Heavy rain clouds loom over Hyderabad as the city braces for another wet day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the districts of Thiruvallur and Ranipet and has to expect very heavy rains due to the already widespread rain in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, the orange alert will also be applicable to the districts of Chennai, Salem, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Dharmapuri, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Tirupattur, and will last till Wednesday.

The cyclone in the South Bay of Bengal is the principal factor of the rain in the northern and central regions of Tamil Nadu. The IMD has forecasted light to moderate rains along with thunderstorms and lightning in a number of districts until Thursday.

Fishermen are strongly advised not to venture into the sea for the next two days because of the adverse sea conditions and high winds.

☁️ Regional Outlook

The Chennai unit of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has stated that the weather will be predominantly overcast with occasional showers, thunder, and lightning. Similar weather is expected on the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, specifically in the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin areas.
