Anup Jalota Slams AR Rahman, Suggests He ‘Reconvert’ to Hinduism to Get More Work

Anup Jalota responds to AR Rahman’s remarks, suggesting he reconvert to Hinduism to regain Bollywood work.

After Anup Jalota’s quick and cutting response to Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman’s recent comments, which were about losing work because of his religion, a new controversy has broken out. Jalota’s remarks, which were posted in a video that is going around on social media, have advised Rahman to think about changing back to Hinduism if he really thinks being a Muslim is limiting his chances in Bollywood.

Jalota’s Advice to Rahman

Jalota, in the video, expressed his disagreement with Rahman’s opinions and came up with a straightforward solution. He pointed out that Rahman was Hindu by birth before changing his religion to Islam and that he had won the industry with his immense talent. Yet, Jalota stated that if Rahman was really losing movie offers due to his religion, then he should “go back to Hinduism.”

He said, “If he believes he is not getting film work because he is Muslim, then he should become Hindu again. Then he can see if films start coming back.”

Jalota added that Rahman should test his theory by reverting to Hinduism and seeing whether film offers return.

Rahman’s Comment That Sparked the Row

The BBC Asian Network interview where Rahman discussed potential bias in Bollywood was the start of the debate. He proposed that the industry’s power change might have resulted in the creative people losing their grip on the situation and even pointed out religion as a possible reason. He said, “It might be a communal thing also… but it is not in my face.”

Rahman also criticised the film Chhaava for exploiting “divisiveness” for commercial gain.

Rahman Issues Apology

Following the incident, Rahman expressed regret in a message, stating that his comments might have created trouble. He defended that music had been his means of paying homage to and getting close to Indian culture and that he had not meant to hurt anyone.
