However, his son Prahlad remained devoted to Lord Vishnu. Enraged, Hiranyakashipu plotted to kill him with the help of his sister Holika, who had immunity against fire. She tricked Prahlad into sitting on her lap in a blazing pyre, believing she would survive.
Miraculously, Holika was consumed by the flames while Prahlad remained unharmed due to his unwavering faith. Later, Vishnu appeared as Narasimha and defeated Hiranyakashipu at twilight—symbolising the ultimate victory of good over evil.
This legend is remembered through Holika Dahan, where bonfires are lit on the eve of Holi to signify the burning away of negativity.
