Nandamuri Balakrishna who people commonly call Balayya has started filming his new movie after he accepted a budget cut of about ₹60 crore. The requirements for his 111th project will force him to change his production methods because his past films attained commercial success through 100 crore box office revenue yet his production costs have risen and current market conditions differ from the previous situation.
Balakrishna has delivered five consecutive films with collections exceeding ₹100 crore. The first four films of the series failed to bring in profits that matched their production costs, while the fifth movie Akhanda 2: Tandavansa achieved commercial success yet it failed to provide solid returns on investment. The makers of his next film have chosen to reduce its budget through significant financial cutbacks.
Director Gopichand Malineni will lead the film, which producers originally intended as a high-budget period or fantasy drama. The project has changed to a family-focused entertainment show because producers are dealing with problems about theatrical releases and different valuation systems between OTT and satellite rights. The new production approach will result in major cost savings while decreasing overall financial exposure.
Sources report that Balakrishna recommended budget cuts because he believed sustainable production should be the main focus for producers. According to Balayya the film industry operates best when producers achieve financial success which inspires them to create additional films.
Balakrishna has learned from previous experiences which include the release challenges that faced Akhanda 2. Balakrishna wants all filmmakers who work with him to receive protection from financial losses that arise because of unpaid debts or postponed movie releases. The actor wants his movies to reach audiences through an easy process which does not cause any financial difficulties for the film producers.
The new film produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru will begin production in March. The project features a family-centered plot which intends to attract viewers from various audience segments. Balakrishna has previously achieved great success with family films and Gopichand Malineni who directed the successful Veerasimha Reddy will work again with the actor to create another successful project.
