Border 2 made a strong initial box office performance but its box office performance decreased during the second week because the film failed to reach the ₹300 crore benchmark after 14 days of screening in theaters.
Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty star in the war drama which launched on January 23 and achieved strong box office success. The second week saw a dramatic drop in box office earnings. The film achieved ₹3.35 crore in earnings on Day 14 according to Sacnilk which brought its total domestic box office collection to ₹294.25 crore.
Second-Week Slowdown Amid Competition
The second week of Border 2 faced intense competition from Mardaani 3 which starred Rani Mukerji. The film generated only ₹70 crore during this time period which dropped significantly from its initial first week revenue.
The film needs to reach ₹300 crore in box office revenue but it has already recouped its ₹275 crore production costs which make it financially viable for its producers.
The trade analysts believe that it will not reach the lifetime collections of other major 2025 films including Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar and Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava.
Comparison With 2025’s Biggest Hits
Border 2 started its box office run with the expectation that it would break the records established by Dhurandhar and Chhaava. The second week of Aditya Dhar’s spy thriller Dhurandhar reached ₹460.5 crore while Chhaava reached ₹399.5 crore in domestic box office revenue.
Border 2 generated approximately ₹53 crore worldwide during its second week while Chhaava reported worldwide earnings of ₹180 crore and Dhurandhar achieved global revenues of $25 million which equals approximately ₹200 crore during the same period.
A Strong Start, Followed by a Steep Drop
Border 2 experienced a substantial start but it later lost momentum. The film opened with ₹30 crore on its first day and experienced significant growth to reach ₹54.5 crore on its third day before reaching its highest point of ₹59 crore on Republic Day which was the fourth day of release.
The film experienced a drop in collections which continued throughout the weekdays and reached its highest decline during the second week when it earned ₹5.75 crore on Days 11 and 12 and ₹4.15 crore on Day 13.
Border 2 has become one of the top box office successes of the year but its decreasing momentum indicates that it will not reach the same level of success as the top 2025 blockbusters.
