Cattle Smuggling Suspect Shot in Leg During Police Chase in Puttur

Cattle Smuggling Suspect Injured in Police Firing During Puttur Chase

In Puttur, Karnataka, on Tuesday night, a man who was charged with illegal cattle transport got hurt when police fired shots during a chase of the vehicle. The police indicated that the suspect was going to run away when he was ordered to stop, and that was the reason why the officers took such actions.

The Incident in Detail

The suspect Abdullah (40) hails from Kerala’s Kasaragod. He was said to be in possession of ten cattle and stopped at the rural police limit of Puttur when the police wanted to arrest him but he was in an Eicher vehicle.

As per the officials, Abdullah disobeyed the police and took off and a 10-kilometre chase ensued. He was reported to have hit a police jeep during the chase.

Thereupon, a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) shot twice, one bullet went into the vehicle and the other hit Abdullah’s leg causing his injury. The other person who was with him in the vehicle ran away.

Medical Assistance and Judicial Measures

Right away, Abdullah was taken to Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. The police verified that he had an earlier case registered against him with the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act at Bellare Police Station (Case No. 33/2025).

Along with the earlier case, a new case has been opened against him and the inquiry is still going on. The incident has been the occurrence of the first police shooting of cow lifters in the region in recent times which has brought about the rise in illegal cattle transport policing.
